Global growth picked up in the third quarter of 2020, after a sharp contraction in the second quarter. The growth pick-up was supported by the gradual easing of the pandemic-related restrictions and strong fiscal and monetary policy support. In the near-term, however, the resurgence of COVID-infections in advanced economies, accompanied by the re-imposition of targeted lockdown measures in several advanced economies, is expected to moderate economic activity and slowdown the recovery.
