The Bank of Ghana wishes to inform all banks and the general public that the old GH¢50 banknotes ceased to be legal tender after SEPTEMBER 30, 2012, and should therefore not be issued to members of the public.

Pricing, Advertising and Receipt or Payment for Goods and Services in Foreign Currency in Ghana

The Bank of Ghana announces for the information of the General Public that it has come to its notice that despite the earlier Notices Nos. BG/GOV/SEC/98/2 dated 14th January, 1998 and BG/GOV/SEC/2001/9 dated 18th June, 2001 which advised against unlicensed or unauthorized dealings in foreign currency, certain institutions (both public and private) and individuals have been pricing, advertising and receiving or paying in foreign currency, especially United States (US) dollars, for their goods and services without the requisite licence or authorisation.

BOG Lifts Sanctions Imposed on Access Bank

The Bank of Ghana has decided to lift the suspension of Access Bank Ghana Ltd. from engaging in foreign exchange business with effect from Monday, 24th September, 2012. This follows a review of Access Bank’s compliance with directives, internal control measures put in place to forestall the recurrence of breaches as well as efforts being made to repatriate the proceeds of the illegal foreign exchange transferred.
